What the research looked at

Each line is one body of research, graded A (strong) to D (weak). How we grade evidence. What each study measured is explained in your personal plan.

GradeWho was studiedReferences
A Adults with normal or raised cholesterol
  • Ho HVT et al. Br J Nutr 2016;116:1369-82 (58 RCTs; PMID 27724985)
  • EFSA NDA Panel 2011 (oat beta-glucan and blood cholesterol); Reg. (EU) 1160/2011

How much

  • Our plans usually use 3 g a day for adults. The exact dose depends on your lab results, age and medicines.
  • Adult upper limit: 10 g a day from food and supplements together. Source: Trials used up to about 10 g a day (Ho HVT et al. Br J Nutr 2016); bloating limits more.
  • Children's doses are set by age, and some ingredients are for adults only.

Medicines and other supplements

  • Take with care. Viscous fibre can slow or reduce absorption of medicines; take medicines 2 hours before or after.

Your plan is checked against every medicine you tell us about. If you take a medicine, ask your pharmacist or doctor before starting a new supplement.
